The Glendevon Energy engineers installed a new 15kW ETA Wood Pellet Boiler with autofeed for this customer near Bridge of Earn. We had first met the customer in 2007, when we installed solar thermal panels for heating hot water. The solar system is still up and running and works in tandem with the new biomass boiler. 

The existing log boiler has worked well, but the customer was finding it increasingly hard work and buying logs was becoming more expensive. The fully automated wood pellet biomass system has proved to be a great success. The boiler is housed in a plant room adjacent to the stone cottage, and linked to the bulk store which is about 10 meters away by two fill/ return air pipes. The flat pack store was assembled and commissioned by the Glendevon Energy Engineers and the internet enabled controls allow our Engineers to give remote support with programming and any issues that arise. The grey pipes on the side of the green pellet store (see photo above) are used by a pellet delivery truck to blow the pellets in. This is very similar to an oil or LPG delivery.

The customer was keen to replace two old and expensive heating systems and leave headroom for a home extension.  The Nibe cascade system plus an extension of the radiator system achieved this and successfully heats the family home.  The heat pumps also provide plentiful domestic hot water via a 300L heat pump cylinder.

Our relationship with Nigel and Catriona started with servicing and maintaining their existing ground source heat pump in March 2020 – their original installer had ceased trading. The old heat pump had become prone to breakdowns, including a failed compressor, so the customers asked us to quote to replace the heat pump and we recommended a Stiebel Eltron WPE-1, 12kW which has a variable speed compressor.

The system was installed in 2024 with a buffer tank which combined with the variable speed compressor should address the historic short cycling issues. We also power flushed the heating distribution system and re-balanced the radiators. This improved the flow and hence the system efficiency.

Glendevon Energy engineers installed a new 12kW Stiebel Eltron WPE Ground Source Heat Pump for customers in Leslie, Fife.

This replaced an old ground source heat pump installed by others. The old system had a tendency to trip on high pressure alarms with no apparent cause, while the original controller had become difficult to use. The client therefore accepted a recommendation to remain with the same manufacturer to ensure compatibility with the buffer and hot water tanks but the new model heat pump would come with the benefits of an inverter drive. The new system is easy to check online, has responsive UK manufacturer support and is delivering both heat and hot water for the property.
