95kW Wood Pellet Boiler replacing LPG system achieving significant fuel cost savings and generating Non Domestic RHI income…

Highland Estate, Wester Ross

The owner of this Estate approached Glendevon looking for a wood pellet boiler solution to replace the Lodge’s   increasingly expensive  LPG heating system.  An overhaul of   the problematic control systems was also required.

Following a detailed assessment Glendevon Energy proposed a 95kW ETA PEK wood pellet boiler with one of the three existing LPG boilers being left in place for emergency backup.  The design involved careful planning given space constraints in the existing plant room and a preference to minimise the amount of new site works.  This was achieved by using the existing plant room to house a buffer tank with heat piped in from the new biomass boiler, some 20m away in an existing out house.  Pellets are stored in a Glendevon Hopper – 9t external store that’s located about 15m from the boiler. A vacuum system draws the pellets to the boiler.

Heat is supplied to both the rentable “Fisherman’s Wing” and Owners Accommodation which allows the project to qualify for the Non Domestic Renewable Heating Incentive (RHI).    Wood pellets are being supplied from Balcas’ Invergordon plant  which in turn sources timber from all over the North of Scotland.

The owner comments “We were delighted with the service from Glendevon. The new system went in on time and has worked well since then. The predicted costs are on plan and the RHI incentive is relatively easy to administer once we got through the complex set up procedure with the help of Glendevon.”
